  • Artist Statement:

Ceramics are an integral part of our everyday experience and our familiarity with them enables us to understand their function as well as their fragility.
We also experience ceramics through connoisseurship as collectables, museum exhibits and high value works of art – as special, precious, cultural objects.
The challenge for me, in producing this new body of unfamiliar work, was both to redefine my perception of ceramics and incorporate them into my practice as an artist. I was forced to reconsider the way I normally experience ceramics and how I approach their materiality. In doing so, the everyday object became the art object and the familiar became the unknown – technically, conceptually and aesthetically.
